Requirements
To complete the major, students must earn 36 credits minimum including:
- AFS 263 - Intro to African Studies
- AFS 490 - Senior Seminar in African
- Electives to meet the 36-credit minimum required for the major (no more than 2 courses at the 100 level and 3 courses at the 200 level may count toward the major). Most electives should be 300 and 400 level courses with content strongly/fully focused on African Studies and the DUS approval.
- One elective may be a course with partial content related to African Studies, with the DUS approval
- Specified language courses may be considered as electives with the DUS approval; however not required. No more than 2 language courses can count toward the major.
- Up to four courses (totaling no more than 16 credits) from study abroad programs may count toward the major with the approval of the Director/DUS.
