Additional information
1. Students may earn up to four courses toward the major requirements through a semester or year abroad in any Emory approved program. Majors must take at least two 300- or 400- level Portuguese seminars at Emory, regardless of their study abroad credits approved. Programs directed by departmental faculty are excluded from the four courses cap.
2. Although study abroad is not required for the Global Portuguese Studies (GPS) major, all students are strongly encouraged to participate. Students can, however, meet all the requirements with courses offered on campus.
3. Thirty-six credit hours are required to complete the major regardless of starting point. Considering that students who enter the program with advanced Portuguese language skills are note required to take Portuguese courses at the 200 level, they will instead be required to take two other courses above 212, to be determined in consultation with the Director or the Portuguese Program.
